Are you a fan of the magazine Bitch: Feminist Response to Pop Culture? Do you love to write, or consider yourself a media maven? Bitch Magazine is accepting applications for its winter 2011 Editorial Internship up until this Friday, October 15.

For twelve years, Bitch, a nonprofit organization, has been delivering feminist news and commentary to the masses. Today the organization has a popular website complete with blogs, podcasts, a store, and plenty of other ways to share feminist news and views beyond the print magazine the world once solely relied on. Interns for the Bitch editorial department will have the opportunity propose and work on topics for Bitch magazine as well as the Bitch website. Working on the Bitch social networking pages, researching new articles, proofreading, fact-checking, and many other experiences that will come in handy for future journalists, writers, and media experts are all part of the position. People who apply should expect to attend a weekly staff meeting, provide support for staff members of Bitch, compile data, and manage office memos, emails, databases, and other paperwork.

Desired skills for editorial interns include but are not limited to those above as well as familiarity with basic word processing programs, such as Microsoft Word and Excel. While the position is not paid, interns can receive college credit, as well as valuable experience for their resumes and future work and solid references. Applicants should expect to have the position for three to six months.

People who wish to apply should send their cover letter, resume, and two samples of nonfiction work to bitch@bitchmagazine.org. For more information about the editorial internship, click here. Several other internships, including publishing, design, development, and other sectors, are also available as they open. Though most are currently filled, interested persons should keep them in mind for potential internships next year.

Interested in working with Bitch but can’t commit to an internship? There are plenty of other opportunities available. Volunteers are always needed for various projects—both in person as well as online—and the magazine could always use help throwing house parties, or with their Bitch Street Team. Both of these positions exist to help generate interest, funds, and subscribers in Bitch magazine. For more information about all of these experiences, online kits, and respective contact information, click here. Of course, you can always help the magazine by subscribing, donating, and sharing information about it with friends and family, too.
